FBI Releases Footage of Armed Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance

Must read

The FBI has released chilling surveillance footage of a masked, armed person tampering with the doorbell camera at the home of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing since February 1.

Guthrie was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue on the night of January 31, 2026. She was reported missing the following day after failing to attend church, with authorities now believing she was taken against her will. Small blood drops confirmed as hers were found on her porch.

The grainy surveillance images, released on February 10, show an individual wearing a gun holster, ski mask, backpack, gloves, hoodie, and light-colored pants approaching the elderly woman’s home around 1:47 a.m. on February 1. According to the FBI, “The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems,” suggesting the perpetrator had attempted to delete the footage.

Investigation Intensifies

What began as a missing person case has rapidly evolved into a multi-agency manhunt. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has received an astonishing 18,000 tips since Guthrie’s disappearance, with over 4,000 pouring in during a single 24-hour period earlier this week.

Law enforcement activity has visibly ramped up across southern Arizona. On February 10, a man was detained during a traffic stop near the U.S.-Mexico border south of Tucson. After questioning, he was released, telling reporters, “I didn’t do anything. … I’m innocent.”

The same day, authorities conducted a court-authorized search of a location in Rio Rico, approximately 60 miles south of Tucson. Officials have not disclosed what, if anything, was discovered during this operation.

Several hundred detectives and federal agents have been assigned to the case, with FBI teams conducting extensive searches along roadways in the affluent Catalina Foothills neighborhood where Guthrie lives.

Armed Suspect

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have described the individual in the surveillance images as “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.” The footage shows the person apparently trying to shield themselves from the camera while carrying what appears to be a firearm.

This development has heightened concerns about the nature of Guthrie’s disappearance. The presence of blood at the scene, combined with evidence of an armed intruder, paints an increasingly troubling picture of what may have occurred that February morning.

Authorities haven’t publicly commented on potential motives, though the high-profile nature of the Guthrie family has inevitably raised questions about whether Nancy’s relationship to her famous daughter might have made her a target.

As the search enters its second week, the investigation continues to expand. The sheer volume of tips suggests widespread public engagement with the case, though sorting through thousands of leads presents its own challenges for investigators racing against time.

For Savannah Guthrie and her family, the wait continues—each passing day bringing new developments but, so far, no resolution to the mysterious disappearance that has captured national attention.
