FBI Offers $100,000 Reward in Kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s Mother as Search Intensifies

The FBI has dramatically increased its reward to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever kidnapped Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, as the investigation enters its second week with no sign of the missing woman.

Guthrie was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona. She was reported missing the following day after failing to attend church services, something family members say was highly unusual for her. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department quickly determined she had likely been taken against her will after discovering disturbing evidence at her residence.

Chilling Video and Ransom Demands

In a troubling development, investigators released Nest doorbell camera footage showing a masked individual at Guthrie’s doorstep. Even more concerning, drops of blood were found at the entrance to her home, though officials haven’t confirmed whose blood it might be.

The kidnapper hasn’t been silent. Multiple ransom demands have been made, including a staggering $6 million in Bitcoin with a deadline of 5 p.m. on February 9. A third note, bizarrely sent directly to celebrity news outlet TMZ, demanded just one Bitcoin (approximately $67,000) merely for information about the kidnapper’s identity — a tactic that has puzzled investigators.

What’s driving this unusual case? Authorities haven’t publicly speculated on motives, but the targeting of a high-profile television personality’s elderly mother and the sophisticated ransom demands suggest this wasn’t a random crime.

Investigation Developments

Law enforcement initially detained a delivery driver for questioning in connection with the disappearance but later released him. When asked about his experience being questioned, the unidentified man appeared confused, saying, “When they finally told you this had to do with some kidnapping, like what, — what were you,” before his statement was cut off in footage released to the media.

The FBI has conducted extensive searches along roadways in the Catalina Foothills area, with evidence tents and plainclothes detectives carrying evidence bags spotted at various locations. The investigation appears to be intensifying rather than winding down, now eleven days after Guthrie’s disappearance.

“There’s a lot of leads in there that aren’t going to be legitimate, but there’s some that absolutely are, and that’s what they’re going to be focusing on — for now,” said one law enforcement source familiar with the case who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly.

Family Waits for Answers

Savannah Guthrie has taken leave from her “Today” show duties to focus on her mother’s disappearance. NBC colleagues have expressed support but respected the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

The case has gripped the Tucson community, with local residents joining organized search efforts and providing tips to authorities. The significant increase in the reward amount — now at $100,000 — signals both the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case and their possible frustration at the lack of breakthrough leads.

As the February 9 ransom deadline approaches, law enforcement faces mounting pressure to resolve a case that has both personal stakes for a prominent television personality and increasingly troubling implications about targeted crimes against elderly Americans in affluent communities.
