NBC’s Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Nancy Missing: $100K Reward, Kidnapping Feared

Must read

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has triggered a massive investigation as evidence points to a potential abduction from her Arizona home.

Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after being last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills, just outside Tucson, the previous evening. The case quickly escalated from a missing person report to something far more disturbing.

Signs of Foul Play

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been blunt about what investigators found. “At this point, investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night,” he stated. “Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction. She couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”

The most chilling evidence? Doorbell camera footage captured at 1:47 a.m. on February 1 showing an individual at Guthrie’s door wearing a balaclava, gloves, and a backpack, with a gun holstered at the front of their waist, according to details released by investigators.

Federal authorities, including the FBI, have joined local law enforcement, examining phone records, surveillance footage, and online activity to piece together Guthrie’s final known movements.

The Investigation Intensifies

What’s making this case particularly challenging for investigators? A glove found two miles from Guthrie’s home contained DNA that didn’t match anyone in the FBI-managed Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), according to reports.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has cleared all of Guthrie’s family members and their spouses as possible suspects. “To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects in this case. The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case,” the department confirmed.

Authorities are now searching rural and rugged terrain around the Tucson area, with the FBI increasing its reward in the case to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s whereabouts.

A Family’s Desperate Plea

The situation has grown increasingly dire as Nancy Guthrie was taken without her heart medication, raising serious concerns about her health and survival as days turn into weeks.

Her daughter, Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, issued an emotional appeal on Instagram directly addressing whoever might be responsible. “And I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is that it’s never too late, and you’re not lost or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing,” she pleaded. “We are here and we believe, and we believe in the essential goodness of every human being, and it’s never too late.”

Following reports of several notes demanding payment in bitcoin, the family has indicated they’re willing to pay a ransom for Nancy’s safe return.

Hunt for the Suspect

On February 12, the FBI released a suspect description based on the doorbell camera footage. Investigators believe the clothing and face mask worn by the suspect could have been purchased at a Walmart.

Could someone recognize this individual? Authorities are banking on it. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have established dedicated hotlines, with the FBI operating at 1-800-CALL-FBI and PCSD maintaining an online form for tip submissions.

As the investigation enters its third week, the case has captured national attention while a family waits for answers. For Savannah Guthrie and her relatives, each day brings renewed hope but also deepening concern for an 84-year-old woman who vanished in the middle of the night, leaving behind only the haunting image of a masked figure at her door.
