South Dallas Drive-By Shooting: 2 Women Shot Inside Home, Suspect at Large

Must read

Two women were shot inside their South Dallas home late Sunday night after a gunman opened fire on the residence with a rifle — and police are still looking for whoever pulled the trigger.

It happened around 11:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of Carpenter Avenue, a quiet residential stretch in South Dallas that suddenly became a crime scene. Officers arrived to find both women suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to a local hospital and are, thankfully, expected to recover.

A Home Turned Target

Being inside your own home is supposed to mean something. It’s supposed to mean safe. Sunday night in South Dallas, it didn’t. Dallas police say a suspect fired a rifle at the residence in what’s being characterized as a drive-by-style shooting — the kind of attack where walls and windows offer no real protection, and the people inside have almost no warning at all.

The two victims, both women, were struck by gunfire before officers from units A347 and A331 were logged responding to the scene at 23:17:03 on March 1, 2026, according to the Dallas Police Active Calls record. That’s roughly two minutes after the initial call — fast, but in a shooting, two minutes is an eternity.

The Search Is On

So where’s the shooter? That’s the part Dallas police can’t answer yet. As of early Monday, no suspect had been identified or taken into custody. Officers who worked the scene described an active investigation, but details remain scarce — the kind of scarce that usually means detectives are still piecing together the who and the why.

A rifle. A home. Two women who were simply there. Still, investigators haven’t released a motive, a description of the suspect, or any vehicle information that might help the public assist in the search. Whether that information is being withheld for investigative reasons or simply isn’t known yet isn’t clear.

A Neighborhood on Edge

South Dallas has seen its share of violent nights. That doesn’t make this one easier to absorb — for the victims, for their neighbors, or for a city that keeps asking itself what it takes to make a street feel safe again. Two women went to sleep Sunday in their own home and woke up in a hospital. The man with the rifle is still out there somewhere.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Dallas police. Because the only thing worse than a shooting like this is one that never gets solved.
