A woman was shot in the abdomen early Friday morning at the Sun Valley Motel in northwest Fort Worth, police confirmed.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the 1800 block of Jacksboro Highway, roughly northwest of downtown. Fort Worth police officers arrived at the scene to find the victim wounded by an unknown suspect who remains at large.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital. The severity of her injuries and her current condition haven’t been disclosed by authorities.
Investigation Ongoing
What prompted the shooting? That’s a question investigators are still working to answer as they search for the suspect. The area around Jacksboro Highway has seen several violent incidents in recent years, though it’s unclear if this shooting relates to any broader pattern.
This marks at least the second motel shooting in Fort Worth this year that has triggered a significant police response. In a separate incident, a hotel shooting led to a SWAT standoff and eventual arrest.
Fort Worth Police Department representatives haven’t released information about a possible motive or whether the victim knew her attacker. They’re asking anyone with information to contact the department’s non-emergency line.
Authorities describe this as a developing situation, with more details expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
Residents and visitors staying at nearby businesses are understandably shaken. The Sun Valley Motel, situated along a busy stretch of Jacksboro Highway, typically sees considerable traffic but isn’t often the site of such violent crime.
For now, a suspect remains on the loose, and a woman fights for recovery — one more chapter in Fort Worth’s complex relationship with gun violence that continues to challenge the city’s law enforcement resources.
