Elderly Rockwall Man Arrested After Shooting Wife in Domestic Incident

An 80-year-old Rockwall man is in custody after allegedly shooting his wife inside their home Sunday morning, leaving her critically injured.

Steven Boewe was arrested and charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault following the shooting at the couple’s residence on Stafford Circle, authorities confirmed.

Neighbor Alerted After Shooting

Police responded to the 600 block of Stafford Circle around 10 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. What they found was a 72-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen, according to Rockwall police who arrived at the scene.

In a bizarre twist, Boewe apparently walked to a neighbor’s house after the shooting to report what had happened before police could arrive. The neighbor presumably contacted authorities, though officials haven’t detailed that conversation.

First responders transported the victim, whose identity hasn’t been released, to a local hospital. As of Sunday afternoon, she remained in critical condition, police stated.

Investigation Ongoing

What prompted an elderly man to allegedly shoot his wife of advanced age? That question remains unanswered as investigators have yet to reveal any possible motive for the shooting.

Rockwall officials characterized the incident as isolated, emphasizing there’s no ongoing threat to the public. Still, the violence has rattled the typically quiet suburban neighborhood.

Boewe has been charged with aggravated assault – family violence, which carries significant penalties as a first-degree felony in Texas. He’s currently being held at Rockwall County Jail, with bond not yet set, authorities indicated.

The case highlights the often-hidden nature of domestic violence, which can affect couples of any age. Neighbors in the area expressed shock at the incident, as the couple had not previously drawn attention for any public disturbances.

Police have not announced whether Boewe has legal representation or when he’s scheduled to appear in court for the first time.
