Deadly Cedar Hill Shooting: 2 Killed in Officer-Involved Highway 67 Incident

Must read

Two people are dead following a chaotic shooting incident on Highway 67 in Cedar Hill that began with a 911 call and ended with officers firing their weapons Friday night.

The highway, which was closed for hours, has now reopened after police responded to reports of shots being fired at a vehicle around 8 p.m. The incident escalated rapidly when officers located a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller.

Fatal Confrontation

According to authorities, the series of events unfolded after a driver called 911 claiming someone had shot at his vehicle near Joe Wilson Road. Cedar Hill police quickly responded, locating a matching vehicle on the shoulder near Wintergreen Road, where they initiated what they described as a “high-risk stop.”

What happened next turned deadly. A woman exited the passenger side of the suspect’s vehicle and was immediately shot by the driver, police said. The male driver then reportedly emerged from the vehicle and pointed a gun at responding officers, who opened fire.

“Highway 67 has reopened after being blocked Friday night during a police response to a report of shots fired at a vehicle,” the Cedar Hill Police Department confirmed in a statement.

Both the driver and passenger received medical attention at the scene. The woman was pronounced dead there, while the man was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigation Underway

The identities of the two deceased individuals have not yet been released to the public. The motive behind the initial shooting that prompted the 911 call remains unclear.

The Texas Rangers have now taken over the investigation of the officer-involved shooting — standard procedure in such cases. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

During the police response, southbound Highway 67 was completely shut down near Wintergreen Road. The Cedar Hill Police Department had earlier posted to Facebook describing the closure as due to “police activity,” urging drivers to seek alternate routes such as Duncanville Drive or Joe Wilson Road.

Could this tragedy have been prevented? That’s the question likely to be at the center of the Rangers’ investigation, which will examine the officers’ use of force and the sequence of events that led to two fatalities.

The incident marks a disturbing episode of violence on a major thoroughfare in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, leaving local residents shaken and authorities piecing together exactly what happened during those fatal moments on Highway 67.
