Free 2026 Texas Real Estate CE: VLB Course for Military Homebuyers

Must read

Texas real estate agents looking for continuing education credits will have a free option on their plate for 2026, as the Veterans Land Board (VLB) has announced it will continue offering its TREC-approved course focused on helping military families navigate home and land purchases.

The one-hour course, which can be taken either online via Zoom or in-person, is designed to educate REALTORS on the various loan programs available to Texas veterans, military members, and their spouses. Texas Land Commissioner and VLB Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., confirmed the course’s continuation as part of the state’s commitment to supporting both the real estate profession and the military community.

What’s Covered in the Course

Ever wonder what makes veteran home loans different from conventional options? The VLB course tackles this question head-on, covering eligibility requirements, property types, and loan options specifically tailored for military families. It also delves into new construction financing, lender information, and land loan details including minimum acreage requirements and maximum loan amounts, according to program materials.

The curriculum doesn’t shy away from practical concerns either. Attendees will learn about the pre-qualification process and common issues that can delay loan closings — knowledge that could prove invaluable for agents working with veteran clients on tight timelines.

Rodney Washington, who serves as Marketing Specialist and Veteran Resource Coordinator for the Texas Veterans Land Board, is among those teaching the course. “My name is Rodney Washington,” he states in promotional materials for upcoming sessions, emphasizing his role in connecting REALTORS with the resources they need to better serve military community clients.

Meeting CE Requirements

For Texas real estate professionals, continuing education isn’t optional. Licensees must complete 18 hours every two years to maintain their credentials, with specific requirements including 8 hours of TREC Legal Update courses (divided into I and II), as outlined by industry education providers.

The VLB course counts toward the elective portion of these requirements, giving agents flexibility in how they fulfill their CE obligations. That’s particularly valuable in a field where time equals money, and professionals must carefully balance educational requirements against client needs.

Beyond the standard one-hour offering, some organizations have expanded on the VLB material. A three-hour course titled “Texas Vet VLB Bootcamp” is available virtually, free to Four Rivers Members or $30 for non-members, according to the Four Rivers REALTORS association.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The timing of this announcement coincides with TREC’s updates to its approved non-elective student manuals for the 2026-2027 period. The commission has published information on required materials for Legal Update I, Legal Update II, and Broker Responsibility courses, with more detailed provider information forthcoming.

For agents specializing in military relocations or those working in communities near Texas military installations, the VLB course represents more than just a convenient CE credit. It offers practical knowledge that can translate into better service for a client population with unique needs and challenges.

The continuation of this program reflects a broader recognition within the real estate industry: that serving those who’ve served requires specialized knowledge. And in a competitive market, that knowledge might just be the edge that helps both veterans and the agents who work with them navigate the path to homeownership more successfully.
