Arlington Man Arrested in I-20 Shooting That Killed Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child

A 29-year-old Midlothian man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting on Interstate 20 that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in what investigators say was a targeted attack stemming from a love triangle.

Malik Miner faces capital murder charges after allegedly opening fire on a vehicle carrying his ex-girlfriend, Bre’Asia Johnson, her current boyfriend, and two children on November 12, 2025. The U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force apprehended Miner on Wednesday following an investigation that revealed cell phone evidence placing him at the scene.

Tragedy on the Highway

The shooting unfolded at 7:41 p.m. when a 28-year-old man called 911 to report that both he and Johnson had been shot while traveling westbound on I-20 near Bowman Springs Road. Johnson was rushed to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead along with her unborn child.

“Two children were in the backseat of the vehicle during the shooting; they were taken to a hospital as a precaution but were not seriously injured. A second, uninvolved vehicle was also struck by gunfire,” authorities confirmed.

What initially might have appeared as a random highway shooting quickly evolved into something more deliberate. “Arlington detectives determined the shooting was targeted and not the result of road rage,” according to police documents obtained by reporters.

Digital Breadcrumbs

How did investigators track down Miner? The breakthrough came through digital evidence.

“Police say cell phone location records, recovered during a search warrant of Miner’s home, played a crucial role. The records allegedly placed Miner at the crime scene and showed his movements were nearly identical to Johnson’s in the minutes leading up to the shooting, suggesting he followed the victims’ vehicle,” a detective explained in the arrest affidavit.

The investigation revealed that Miner had previously been in a romantic relationship with Johnson and was involved in an ongoing dispute with her current boyfriend, who was also injured in the shooting. This personal connection established the motive behind what might otherwise have seemed like a random act of violence.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Miner now faces a slew of serious charges: capital murder of multiple persons, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of deadly conduct. The capital murder charge specifically reflects the deaths of both Johnson and her unborn child.

Currently held at Arlington city jail, Miner has refused to cooperate with the investigation. He “declined to speak with investigators following his arrest,” police stated.

The Arlington Police Department hasn’t released details about when Miner will make his first court appearance or whether he has retained legal representation. Given the severity of the charges, particularly capital murder, he could potentially face the death penalty under Texas law.

For the victims’ families, the arrest marks just the beginning of what will likely be a lengthy journey through the criminal justice system — one that can never truly restore what was taken on that November evening on Interstate 20.
