Arrest Made in 2018 Chandler, Texas Double Homicide Cold Case

Must read

A seven-year cold case that left a Texas community searching for answers has finally resulted in an arrest. Lance Kaeden Rains, 25, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the 2018 double homicide that claimed the lives of a father and his teenage daughter in Henderson County.

Authorities announced the arrest this week, linking Rains directly to the deaths of 47-year-old Gabriel McBride and his 17-year-old daughter Beverly McBride, who were shot at their Chandler home on December 10, 2018.

Breakthrough in Long-Running Investigation

What finally broke the case? According to investigators, new witness information emerged alongside fresh forensic evidence that ultimately led them to Rains after years without an arrest.

“The breakthrough in the case came after seven years of investigation. Sheriff Hillhouse credited the arrest to ‘persistent investigative efforts,’ detailed forensic analysis, and the emergence of new evidence and witness information,” the sheriff’s office stated in their release.

Rains is currently being held in Henderson County Jail on a $2 million bond set by 392nd Judicial District Judge Scott McKee. Despite the significant development, authorities have not yet disclosed a potential motive for the killings.

A Night of Horror in Chandler

The tragic events unfolded at a residence in the 20000 block of Woodridge West in Chandler. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Beverly McBride already deceased from a gunshot wound inside the home.

Her father, Gabriel, was found alive but critically wounded. Investigators noted that he drifted in and out of consciousness after being shot before emergency responders airlifted him to UT Health Tyler. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Justice Delayed, But Not Denied

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse emphasized that his department never abandoned the case, despite the passage of time.

“Our investigators never stopped working for this family,” Hillhouse said. “Time does not diminish our commitment to justice, and today’s arrest is proof that we will pursue the truth for as long as it takes.”

The sheriff’s comments highlight a message that many law enforcement agencies struggle to convey to victims’ families: that cases aren’t simply closed when leads run cold. Instead, detectives often revisit evidence as new forensic methods become available or when witnesses finally come forward with crucial information.

Severe Legal Consequences

The capital murder charge Rains faces carries the heaviest possible penalties under Texas law. If convicted, he could face either life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

“Under Texas law, a capital murder charge carries a potential sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty,” legal experts confirm.

For the McBride family and the Chandler community, the arrest represents the first step toward potential closure in a case that has remained painfully unresolved for over seven years. Still, many questions remain unanswered as the case now moves toward prosecution.

As this story develops, investigators continue to urge anyone with additional information about the case to come forward and contact the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
