BJ’s Wholesale Club Recalls Salmon Over Listeria Risk: Check Your Lot Now

Must read

BJ’s Wholesale Club has pulled a brand of Atlantic salmon from shelves in seven states after a potential listeria contamination was discovered through random FDA testing.

Slade Gorton & Co., the distributor behind Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon, announced the recall of lot number 3896 after the Food and Drug Administration detected possible Listeria monocytogenes during routine sampling. The affected products were sold in 2-pound bags between January 31 and February 7, 2026.

Worried you might have purchased the contaminated fish? The affected products were sold exclusively at BJ’s locations across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Consumers can identify the recalled salmon by checking for UPC code 888670025963 and lot number 3896 printed on the back of packaging, according to FDA documents.

Health Risks of Listeria

Though no illnesses have been reported so far, listeria infections can pose serious health risks. Healthy individuals typically experience short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. But the consequences can be far more severe for vulnerable populations.

The bacteria poses particular danger to pregnant women, potentially causing miscarriages and stillbirths, health officials warn. Elderly individuals and those with weakened immune systems also face heightened risk of serious complications.

What should you do if this salmon is sitting in your freezer? Consumers who purchased the affected product are urged not to consume it. Instead, they should call 1-888-628-0730 at any time for instructions on obtaining a full refund and proper disposal of remaining product.

This recall comes amid increased scrutiny of food safety protocols across the seafood industry. While random testing caught this potential contamination before any reported illnesses, food safety experts continue to emphasize the importance of thorough cooking as an additional layer of protection against foodborne pathogens.
