Celina Hit-and-Run: Motorcyclist Killed, Suspect Arrested and Charged

Must read

A hit-and-run crash in Celina has left one motorcyclist dead and a 68-year-old man facing serious felony charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of the fatal collision.

Celina police confirmed that 31-year-old Alexander Lopez was found unconscious and unresponsive in the 15500 block of FM 428 near Creekview Meadows Avenue on February 3, 2026. Despite emergency response efforts, Lopez later died from his injuries.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, according to investigators, when Lopez’s motorcycle collided with a black Dodge 3500 dually pickup truck. Multiple witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of the truck immediately fled without stopping to render aid or wait for authorities.

Driver Identified and Arrested

What followed was a police investigation that quickly identified Mario Aguilar, 68, as the driver of the pickup truck. Aguilar was charged with criminally negligent homicide and failure to stop and render aid — a combination that carries significant legal consequences.

The failure to stop and render aid charge constitutes a second-degree felony, while the criminally negligent homicide charge represents a state jail felony. Both charges reflect the severity with which Texas law treats hit-and-run incidents, especially those resulting in death.

Leaving the scene of a fatal accident? It’s a decision that transforms what might have been handled as a tragic accident into a criminal case with potential prison time.

Local residents expressed shock at the incident, which occurred in what many describe as a typically quiet area along FM 428. The stretch of road where the crash happened borders several developing residential neighborhoods in this rapidly growing part of North Texas.

Authorities haven’t yet released details about what caused the initial collision between the motorcycle and the pickup truck, though the investigation remains active.

For now, Aguilar remains in custody as the case moves forward, while a community mourns the loss of a 31-year-old whose life was cut drastically short on what began as an ordinary Wednesday afternoon in February.
