A seven-year-old boy lost part of his leg after being ejected from his family’s car in a New Year’s Day crash allegedly caused by a drunk driver in Dallas. The horrific accident has left the child facing a long recovery and a drastically altered life.
The crash occurred on January 1, 2026, when a white Honda Civic driven by 23-year-old Michael Lavarius McRae slammed into the family’s vehicle on Central Expressway. Witnesses told police that McRae had been weaving through traffic and speeding for several miles before the collision.
The impact caused the family’s car to flip, ejecting young Saeed nearly 60 feet from the wreckage. Good Samaritans rushed to help the boy, who was bleeding heavily, before first responders arrived at the scene.
Mother’s Anguish and Hope
“When I saw him on the ground, I thought that I would lose him. I don’t know what it is. What happened? God has changed his plan for him, and he gave me him back,” said Saeed’s mother, Ruksara Abbasova, her voice breaking as she recounted the terrifying moments after the crash.
Doctors were forced to amputate Saeed’s leg below the knee due to the severity of his injuries. It’s a life-altering consequence for a child who should have been celebrating the beginning of a new year.
Yet amid the tragedy, Saeed has shown remarkable resilience. “He said, ‘The main thing is that I’m alive, I’m with you, mom, with my family. I know that I will be good. I will be better,'” his mother shared.
Alleged Drunk Driver Faces Multiple Charges
McRae was arrested following the crash on a slew of charges: intoxication, assault with serious bodily injury, failure to maintain financial responsibility, and resisting arrest. He has since been released on bond.
How many more families must suffer before drunk driving is taken more seriously? Abbasova pleaded for greater awareness, saying, “Everyone needs to think about other people too, because you can change the life of the child, the family, for everyone.”
The family is now raising money to cover mounting hospital expenses and to purchase a therapy dog for Saeed. They face not only the emotional trauma of the accident but also the financial burden of ongoing medical care and rehabilitation.
For Saeed, a child whose life changed in an instant because of one person’s reckless decision, the road ahead will be challenging. But it’s his courage in the face of adversity that stands out — a seven-year-old boy teaching adults about what truly matters when life takes an unexpected turn.
