Dallas Double Homicide: Suspects in Red Nissan Sentra Still at Large

Must read

Two men gunned down in broad daylight at a Dallas shopping center remain without justice, as police continue their search for four masked suspects who fled the scene in a red Nissan Sentra. The brazen double homicide that claimed the lives of 22-year-old Jemarcus Irving and innocent bystander Morland Smith, 51, has left investigators seeking the public’s help in cracking the case.

The deadly shooting occurred on December 27, 2023, around 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Saint Augustin and Scyene Road. Surveillance footage captured the chilling sequence of events as the suspects arrived and quickly unleashed terror in the shopping center parking lot.

“A red Nissan Sentra enters the parking lot from Saint Augustine traveling westbound. Pulled into the parking lot and four masked and covered up suspects exit the vehicle and begin shooting,” investigators detailed when describing the attack.

Targeted Attack Claims Innocent Life

Police believe Irving was the intended target of the shooting, while Smith was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. “Review of the video and talking to witnesses, it was pretty clear that Morland Smith was not the target. And it looked like Jemarcus may have been the target,” authorities explained.

After the shooting, the suspects didn’t linger. “At that point, the suspects retreat back into their vehicle and then exit the shopping center and then continue going westbound on Scyene,” according to the police report.

For the family of Morland Smith, the senseless loss has been devastating. His sister, Staphanie Smith, remembers a gentle soul caught in violence that had nothing to do with him. “Morland was laid back. He was quiet. He would joke a lot. He’s never really got into any trouble or nothing like that,” she recalled of her brother.

Clues in Plain Sight

Could someone recognize these killers from their clothing or physical characteristics? Detective Fernando Silva believes so. Despite their masked faces, the suspects left behind visual clues that might lead to their identification.

“You can see clothing, the style of the shoes, the pants and the hoodies that they’re wearing. Kind of gauge their height and weight a little bit of a physical description as well,” Silva noted, referring to surveillance images released to the public.

The victim’s sister has made an impassioned plea for community cooperation, warning that silence only enables future violence. “If you know something, please say something because people say it all the time. Because you could be in this position and somebody you know and hold back information,” she urged.

Breaking the Code of Silence

For investigators, solving this case hinges on someone coming forward with crucial information. Anyone with knowledge about the murders is encouraged to contact Detective Fernando Silva directly at 214-608-2832 or [email protected].

The case is being featured on FOX 4’s Trackdown series, which airs every Wednesday and has helped lead to 216 arrests since its inception. Episodes are also available online, on YouTube, and on FOX Local for those who might have missed the broadcast coverage.

Two years after the gunfire erupted at that Dallas intersection, the red Nissan Sentra and its four occupants remain at large—but investigators remain confident that someone, somewhere knows exactly who pulled the trigger that December morning.
