Dallas Weather: Unseasonably Warm Temps Before Valentine’s Weekend Storms

Must read

Dallas residents should enjoy the sunshine and warmth today because stormy weather is on the horizon for Valentine’s Day weekend. North Texas will see temperatures climb to near 80 degrees on Thursday before a significant weather system brings widespread rainfall and potential thunderstorms starting Friday night.

The unseasonably warm February temperatures are giving Dallas a pleasant reprieve from typical winter conditions, with Thursday’s high reaching the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies, according to meteorologists. That’s well above the historical February average of 59°F that Dallas typically experiences this time of year.

“We will be a little warmer today before some changes arrive tomorrow,” said FOX4 meteorologist Kylie Capps, noting that residents should make outdoor plans sooner rather than later.

Weekend Washout Ahead

Friday will start with increasing clouds and even warmer conditions, with highs reaching 78°F before the weather pattern shifts dramatically. By nightfall, the National Weather Service has designated Saturday as a First Alert Weather Day as a storm system moves through the region.

What can North Texans expect? Forecasts call for widespread showers and thunderstorms beginning Friday night and continuing through much of Saturday. While the severe weather risk remains low, meteorologists are warning about potential gusty winds and small hail accompanying some of the stronger cells.

Rainfall totals will vary across the region, with most areas receiving between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of precipitation. Communities southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex could see up to 2 inches of rain by the time the system moves out.

Planning a Valentine’s Day celebration? Saturday evening plans might need adjustments or indoor alternatives, as the wet weather could linger into the evening hours.

Unusual February Warmth

This week’s warm spell stands in stark contrast to Dallas’s typical February conditions. Historical data shows February temperatures in Dallas normally average between 43°F and 57°F, with the month usually seeing between three to eight days of rainfall.

Thursday’s conditions will remain pleasant with light winds around 6 mph and no precipitation expected. The UV index remains moderate at 4, meaning sun protection is still advisable for those spending extended time outdoors.

But the warmth won’t last. After Saturday’s storm system passes, a return to more seasonal temperatures is expected for the remainder of the month.

For now, Dallas residents would be wise to enjoy the springlike Thursday before the Valentine’s weekend washout begins — perhaps a good day to buy those flowers or chocolates before the rain arrives.
