Former Disney Actor Matt Prokop Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
Former Disney Channel actor Matt Prokop, who once graced screens in “High School Musical 3,” now finds himself behind bars in Texas on disturbing charges including possession of child pornography. The 35-year-old was arrested on Christmas Eve 2025 in Victoria County, where he faces multiple serious allegations that could permanently alter his already troubled legacy.
Authorities confirmed to reporters that Prokop has been charged with second-degree felony possession of child pornography, alongside four misdemeanor counts including violation of a protective order, evading arrest, and two counts of resisting arrest. As of January 10, 2026, he remains held without bail at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
From Disney Stardom to Downfall
Once a recognizable face to a generation of Disney Channel viewers, Prokop appeared in several productions for the family-friendly network during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He starred in “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” and “Geek Charming,” while making guest appearances on hit shows like “Hannah Montana” and “Good Luck Charlie.”
But Prokop’s public image took a devastating turn in 2014. His relationship with “Modern Family” actress Sarah Hyland, who co-starred with him in “Geek Charming,” ended amid shocking allegations of abuse. Court documents revealed that Hyland accused Prokop of choking her and slamming her into a vehicle during a May 2014 confrontation, leading her to seek legal protection.
How serious were the allegations? Serious enough that Hyland was granted a permanent restraining order against Prokop in October 2014, just months after their relationship ended. Reports indicated that “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen had helped Hyland safely exit the relationship.
Lasting Trauma and Career Collapse
The shadow of that relationship has lingered for years. In October 2024, Hyland reflected on the lasting impact of domestic abuse, describing it as something that “scars her soul a little bit” and suggesting that full healing might never come. “I don’t know if that part of any woman will ever be fully healed from that,” she said.
Prokop’s acting career effectively ended shortly after the abuse allegations surfaced. His final acting credit came in the 2013 film “April Apocalypse,” while his last production work was as a producer on the 2015 film “See You in Valhalla,” which ironically starred Hyland. Due to the protection order, Prokop was legally prohibited from attending the film’s premiere.
The current charges represent a dramatic new low for the former child star, whose trajectory has veered from Disney fame to increasingly serious legal troubles. Law enforcement has not yet released details about the evidence supporting the child pornography charges or circumstances surrounding his arrest on Christmas Eve.
This arrest marks the latest chapter in what has become a troubling pattern for Prokop, raising questions about what might have transpired in the years since he faded from public view — and what consequences may follow as his case moves through the Texas justice system.
