President Russell M. Nelson announced 15 new temples during the April 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, bringing his total temple announcements to 200 since becoming Church president.
The newly announced temples will be built across five continents, including locations in Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Portugal, Nigeria, Philippines, New Caledonia, Australia, and various sites across the United States.
“The temple is the gateway to the greatest blessings God has for each of us,” President Nelson declared during the conference session, emphasizing the spiritual significance of these sacred buildings.
The announcement marks a historic milestone in the Church’s temple-building efforts, with the total number of temples either operating, under construction, or announced now reaching 382. Of the temples announced during President Nelson’s tenure, 43 have been dedicated, with 55 currently under construction.
The rapid expansion of temples reflects the Church’s global growth and commitment to making temple worship more accessible to members worldwide. The new temples will serve communities in Reynosa, Mexico; Chorrillos, Peru; Rivera, Uruguay; Campo Grande, Brazil; Porto, Portugal; Uyo, Nigeria; San Jose del Monte, Philippines; Nouméa, New Caledonia; Liverpool, Australia; Caldwell, Idaho; Flagstaff, Arizona; Rapid City, South Dakota; Greenville, South Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; and Spanish Fork, Utah.
“Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than worshipping in the temple as regularly as your circumstances permit,” President Nelson stated, highlighting the essential role of temples in Church doctrine.
The temple construction initiative is part of the Church’s broader mission to prepare a global community for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, with these sacred buildings serving as centers for spiritual renewal and religious ordinances.
