The FBI has launched an urgent investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, after evidence strongly suggests she was abducted from her Arizona home.
Guthrie, who vanished from her Catalina Foothills residence on February 1, 2026, was last seen the previous day. Authorities now believe the elderly woman, who had limited mobility, was forcibly taken against her will, possibly during the night.
“At this point, investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night,” according to officials familiar with the case. “Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction. She couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”
Chilling Video Evidence
The investigation took a disturbing turn when surveillance footage revealed a masked individual at Guthrie’s property. The perpetrator, wearing gloves and armed, was captured disconnecting the doorbell camera at 1:47 a.m. on February 1.
What makes this case particularly troubling? The FBI released additional recovered footage on February 10 showing the suspect tampering with Guthrie’s Nest camera at 2:12 a.m. — suggesting a methodical attempt to disable security systems before the apparent abduction.
Investigators are particularly concerned about Guthrie’s welfare given her age and physical limitations. The fact that she couldn’t travel far without assistance has heightened fears about her safety and the circumstances of her disappearance.
The case has sent shockwaves through both the local community and national media circles, where Savannah Guthrie is a familiar face to millions of Americans who tune into NBC’s “Today” show each morning.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts or who noticed unusual activity in the Catalina Foothills area on January 31 or February 1 to contact the FBI immediately. The investigation continues as family members await news about their loved one.
