Fort Worth Sundance Square Hosts Texas’ Largest 2025 New Year’s Eve Party

Must read

Fort Worth’s Sundance Square is gearing up for what organizers are billing as the largest in-person New Year’s Eve celebration in Texas, with a staggering 40,000 to 50,000 revelers expected to ring in 2025 in the heart of downtown.

The free event, scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. and culminate with midnight fireworks, represents a dramatic scaling-up from previous years. Last year’s celebration drew more than 33,000 attendees, but officials are preparing for an even larger turnout this December 31st.

Post-Pandemic Growth

Remember the scaled-back celebrations of recent years? The contrast couldn’t be more striking. In 2019, roughly 10,000 people attended downtown Fort Worth’s New Year’s festivities. When planning the post-pandemic return, organizers initially took a cautious approach.

“It’s a bit of a big unknown on how many people are going to show up. It’s free to the public, open to all. We’re encouraging people to come down. We just don’t know how to gauge yet,” Sundance Square chief security officer Ed Kraus stated at the time. “We kind of have a planning number of about 5k and we’ll see how that goes.”

That modest 5,000-person estimate has been left in the dust. This year’s celebration is expected to attract more than 40,000 attendees, marking an eight-fold increase from those initial post-pandemic projections.

What’s behind this explosive growth? The event’s free admission certainly helps, but Fort Worth’s downtown renaissance and Sundance Square’s emergence as a regional entertainment destination have transformed what was once a modest local gathering into a major regional attraction.

Planning for the Crowds

City officials face significant logistical challenges with crowds of this size. Transportation, security, and emergency services are all being scaled up accordingly. The celebration’s promotional materials emphasize the event’s accessibility while acknowledging the massive turnout expected.

Downtown businesses are preparing for what could be their biggest night of the year. Restaurants are already booking reservations at a record pace, and hotels in the vicinity report rapidly filling rooms as visitors plan to make a night—or weekend—of the celebration.

For Fort Worth, a city that has sometimes lived in the shadow of its larger neighbor Dallas, hosting what organizers are calling “the largest in-person 2025 New Year’s Eve celebration in Texas” represents something of a coming-of-age moment for its downtown district.

As the countdown to 2025 approaches, one thing seems certain: Sundance Square’s transformation from a modest local gathering spot to the epicenter of Texas New Year’s celebrations is nearly complete. All that remains is for those 50,000 revelers to show up.
