Free Texas TREC CE Course: Help Veterans With VLB Loans Through 2026

Must read

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced that the Veterans Land Board (VLB) will continue offering its free one-hour Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) continuing education course for REALTORS through 2026. The program aims to educate real estate professionals about specialized loan programs available to Texas veterans, military members, and their spouses.

Helping REALTORS Serve Those Who Served

“Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to announce that the VLB’s Texas Real Estate Commission-approved (TREC) Continuing Education course for REALTORS is continuing in 2026,” the organization stated in their recent announcement.

The free course, which counts toward the mandatory continuing education requirements for Texas real estate professionals, covers essential information about VLB home and land loan programs. REALTORS who complete the course gain valuable insights into veteran eligibility requirements, property types that qualify, various loan options, and common closing issues that might arise when working with military clients.

Why does this matter? Texas real estate licensees must complete 18 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their licenses, as confirmed by industry education providers. Eight of those hours must be dedicated to TREC Legal Update I and II courses, with the remainder filled by electives – which is where the VLB course comes in.

Rodney Washington, who serves as Marketing Specialist and Veteran Resource Coordinator for the Texas Veterans Land Board, has been instrumental in delivering these courses. “My name is Rodney Washington, Marketing Specialist and Veteran Resource Coordinator for the Texas Veterans Land Board,” he introduced himself in a recent virtual workshop announcement. Washington has been hosting free virtual CE sessions covering the intricacies of VLB home and land loans.

Meeting Licensing Requirements While Serving Veterans

The continuation of this program comes at a time when real estate professionals are increasingly looking for valuable continuing education options. According to education providers, Texas Real Estate Sales Agent or Broker licenses require the 18-hour TREC mandatory CE every two years, making programs like the VLB course particularly attractive as they fulfill requirements while providing practical knowledge.

TREC maintains strict oversight of continuing education offerings, approving non-elective courses like Legal Update I/II for 2026-2027 and Broker Responsibility for 2025-2026. The VLB courses have secured their place on the approved list of electives, giving them official standing in the industry.

Beyond the standard one-hour offering, some organizations have expanded their veteran-focused education options. For instance, a three-hour virtual CE class called “Texas Vet VLB Bootcamp” (Course No. 34568) is being offered by Texas REALTORS® at no cost to members of certain associations, as noted by Four Rivers REALTORS®.

For real estate professionals working in communities with significant veteran populations, this continuing education opportunity represents more than just checking a box for license renewal. It’s a chance to better serve a clientele with unique needs and access to specialized benefits that many REALTORS may not fully understand without this training.

The VLB Outreach Team continues to make these educational resources available through various channels, ensuring that Texas REALTORS have the knowledge they need to effectively guide veterans through what might be the most significant financial transaction of their lives.

As the program moves forward into 2026, it stands as an example of how regulatory requirements can align with meaningful professional development – helping those who help our veterans find their way home.
