SWAT Standoff in Frisco Ends with Peaceful Arrest After Stolen Vehicle Chase

A New Year’s Eve standoff stretched for hours in a quiet Frisco neighborhood on Wednesday, ending without injuries after a suspected car thief barricaded himself inside a suburban home.

The tense situation began when Frisco police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle near Stonebrook Parkway and Boulder Way early Wednesday morning. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Nima Ghani, fled from officers and barricaded himself inside a residence in the 7100 block of Fieldstone Drive, triggering a SWAT response that would last until midday.

Officers arriving at the scene made contact with one of Ghani’s relatives who was inside the home. The family member exited safely and confirmed to police that Ghani was indeed inside the residence, prompting authorities to deploy negotiators and SWAT team members.

How long would the standoff last? For several tense hours, police maintained their positions while negotiators attempted to convince Ghani to surrender peacefully. Their patience paid off around noon when Ghani was finally spotted and taken into custody without further incident.

Multiple Charges Pending

Ghani now faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and evading arrest, with investigators examining the possibility of additional charges as they continue their investigation into the incident.

Deputy Chief John Skertich expressed relief at the peaceful resolution. “It’s always best to come into custody before anyone gets hurt or there’s any additional charges. So, yes, we always want a peaceful resolution to all of these incidents,” he told reporters at the scene.

The standoff disrupted the normally quiet Fieldstone Drive neighborhood on the last day of the year, with several residents temporarily unable to access their homes during the police operation. Still, authorities were quick to emphasize that this was an isolated incident with no broader threat to the community.

For Frisco police, the incident marked a challenging end to 2025, though one that ultimately concluded without injuries to officers, the suspect, or any bystanders — the best possible outcome for what could have been a volatile situation on a holiday known more for celebration than confrontation.
