‘Full House’ Star Dave Coulier Beats Two Cancers: His Remission Journey

Must read

‘Full House’ star Dave Coulier announced Wednesday that he’s in complete remission from not one, but two separate cancer diagnoses that hit him in back-to-back years, marking an extraordinary recovery journey that began in late 2024.

“I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been,” Coulier revealed in his announcement, capping a 16-month battle that saw him face aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma followed by an unrelated tongue cancer.

A Double Diagnosis

The actor’s ordeal began in October 2024 when what seemed like a routine upper respiratory infection took a frightening turn. Within a week, Coulier discovered a golf-ball sized lump in his groin. After medical examination, the news couldn’t have been worse.

“Three days later, my doctors called me back, and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and it’s called B cell, and it’s very aggressive,'” Coulier shared about the initial diagnosis.

Just as he was celebrating his remission from lymphoma in March 2025, lightning struck twice. During a routine follow-up scan in October 2025, doctors discovered an entirely new cancer — HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer, technically known as P16 squamous carcinoma.

“They said it’s totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a new cancer. … I said, ‘Are you kidding me?'” he explained, capturing the disbelief most would feel facing a second diagnosis.

The Treatment Journey

Coulier’s treatment regimen was grueling. For the lymphoma, he endured six rounds of chemotherapy, a process that initially terrified him. “You hear chemo, and it scares the daylights out of you. The first round was pretty intense because you don’t know what to expect. You don’t know how you’re going to feel,” the actor admitted.

After being declared cancer-free from lymphoma in March 2025, his second battle required a different approach — 35 rounds of targeted radiation therapy for his tongue cancer, which concluded in December 2025.

“It’s a whole different animal than chemo. It doesn’t feel as aggressive, but there are still side effects,” Coulier noted about the radiation treatment.

What kept him going through it all? The unwavering support of his wife, Melissa, played a crucial role in his recovery. Men often struggle with vulnerability during serious illness, Coulier acknowledged.

“And I think for a lot of men, it’s very tough to be vulnerable that way, because we consider ourselves the providers for our families. And we want to be a pillar of strength for everyone,” he reflected.

From Patient to Advocate

Has the experience changed him? Absolutely. The 66-year-old actor has transformed his health scare into a platform for awareness and action.

Coulier has become an ambassador for The V Foundation for Cancer Research and joined the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. “Believe me, I never wanted to be the poster boy for cancer, but I’m willing to carry the flag for everyone and encourage others that this is a disease none of us should have to go through,” he stated.

His advocacy extends beyond traditional cancer awareness. In December 2025, while still undergoing radiation therapy, Coulier launched AWEAR Market, a business focused on products free from toxins like PFAs, BPAs, and microplastics — substances he researched extensively after his diagnoses.

The actor emphasizes that his recovery story hinges on one critical factor: early detection. “Listen to your body. Your body will tell you things. And my body was telling me something’s going on,” Coulier urged.

For the beloved actor who made generations laugh as Joey Gladstone on “Full House,” the road to recovery has been anything but simple. But with both cancers now in remission, Coulier’s double victory serves as a powerful reminder of resilience in the face of repeated adversity — and the importance of paying attention when your body sounds the alarm.
