McKinney Double Homicide: Elderly Couple Found Dead, Armed Standoff Ensues

Must read

McKinney police officers made a grim discovery Sunday morning when they found an elderly couple dead in their home during a welfare check, leading to a violent confrontation with an armed suspect.

The incident unfolded on December 28, 2025, at approximately 9:56 A.M. when officers responded to a residence in the 5300 block of Dunster Drive after family members reported they hadn’t heard from the residents for several days.

Upon entering through the rear door, officers immediately discovered two adults deceased in the living room. The victims were later identified as 73-year-old Leonard Ragan and 72-year-old Jackie Ragan, according to information provided by the McKinney Police Department.

What happened next turned an already tragic scene into a dangerous standoff. While clearing the home, officers encountered 34-year-old Bryce Ragan armed in a bedroom. The confrontation escalated quickly, with two officers firing their weapons and striking Ragan multiple times. Despite the violence of the encounter, officers then rendered lifesaving aid to the suspect before he was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Could this tragedy have been prevented? That’s a question investigators will likely focus on as they piece together the events leading up to the deaths and subsequent shooting.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have emphasized this remains an active investigation, though they’ve assured residents there’s no ongoing threat to public safety. The McKinney Police Department is seeking additional information from the community, urging anyone with knowledge about the incident to contact the McKinney Crime Tip Line or email [email protected], as noted in their statement.

The relationship between the suspect and the deceased couple hasn’t been officially confirmed, though the shared surname suggests a family connection. Details about the cause and time of death for the elderly victims, as well as the circumstances that led to the armed confrontation, have not yet been released.

This tragic case marks another sobering example of the dangerous situations police officers routinely face when conducting welfare checks, which can quickly transform from community service into life-threatening encounters.
