First Lady Melania Trump has launched an ambitious global coalition aimed at preparing children for a technology-driven future, unveiling the initiative during the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The program, named “Fostering the Future Together,” brings together spouses and representatives of heads of government worldwide to focus on children’s well-being through education, innovation, and technology. At its core is what Mrs. Trump described as a mission “to ensure that every child can flourish in the digital era.”
“Innovation is wonderful. Our nations benefit from advancements in technology—saving lives, expanding access to knowledge, connecting people, and of course, safety,” the First Lady stated during the announcement, highlighting technology’s transformative journey from basic inventions to sophisticated tools that shape daily life.
Bridging Technology and Education
What happens when children’s education fails to keep pace with technological change? That’s precisely the gap Mrs. Trump’s initiative seeks to address. The coalition plans to prioritize children’s personal development while unifying efforts across education and technology sectors.
During her address, the First Lady painted a vivid picture of human ingenuity, noting that “Great minds have turned marbles into microchips, paper airplanes into drones, and kites into satellites.” This evolution underscores her vision of preparing the next generation to revolutionize various aspects of life through technology.
The initiative will collaborate with private sector entities to expand access to advanced educational tools and facilitate discussions on both the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence. Mrs. Trump will host the coalition’s inaugural meeting at the White House in early 2026, where member nations will develop strategies for local implementation.
Focus on Foster Care
Fostering the Future Together builds upon Mrs. Trump’s existing work with the foster care community. Her “Fostering the Future” program, part of the broader Be Best initiative, specifically targets educational opportunities for children in foster care—a population facing significant challenges.
The statistics are sobering. According to information shared by the National Foster Youth Institute, only 50 percent of foster children complete high school, and a mere three percent obtain college degrees. After aging out of the system, 20 percent experience homelessness, and only half secure employment by age 24.
“By providing access to a computer science education, these individuals will be prepared to enter the workforce and ultimately reach financial independence,” the First Lady’s office explains on its website. Scholarship recipients receive specialized computer science education designed to help them gain job security in technology sectors.
The global coalition represents an expansion of this vision, aiming to create similar opportunities for children worldwide while addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by rapidly evolving technology.
For Mrs. Trump, whose public initiatives have often centered on children’s welfare, the program marries technological advancement with educational equity—positioning today’s youth to become tomorrow’s innovators in an increasingly digital world.
