A popular dietary supplement marketed to enhance brain function and metabolism has been recalled nationwide after testing revealed potentially dangerous undeclared ingredients that experts warn could pose serious health risks.
Modern Warrior has issued a voluntary recall for all lots of its “Modern Warrior Ready” dietary supplement after regulatory testing detected tianeptine, 1,4-DMAA, and aniracetam — substances not disclosed on the product label and, in the case of tianeptine, not approved for supplement use by the FDA.
Hidden Dangers in Plain Sight
The recall affects all lots of the product sold directly to consumers nationwide from April 2022 through December 8, 2025. The supplements come in distinctive black plastic bottles with black screw-top lids and black and gold tamper-evident shrink wrap, containing 60 capsules per bottle.
What makes this recall particularly concerning? The FDA’s January 9 notice highlighted that tianeptine can cause “life-threatening events” including “suicidal ideation” or behavior in children, adolescents, and adults 25 years old and younger, as noted in their announcement.
Modern Warrior Ready has been marketed as a supplement to boost metabolism, improve brain function, and reduce cravings. But the undisclosed ingredients present serious health concerns that consumers had no way of knowing about when purchasing the product.
Undeclared Ingredients Raise Red Flags
The recall comes after testing revealed multiple problematic substances. Tianeptine, sometimes called “gas station heroin,” has been linked to severe side effects and is not FDA-approved for any use in the United States. 1,4-DMAA can increase blood pressure and cardiovascular health risks, while aniracetam is an unapproved drug sometimes used off-label for cognitive enhancement.
“The product was distributed nationwide,” the company stated in their recall notice, adding that all lots of Modern Warrior Ready should be considered affected by this recall.
Consumers who have purchased Modern Warrior Ready are urged to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase. The company has not yet reported any adverse events related to the supplement, but the recall is being conducted out of an abundance of caution.
The Regulatory Gap
This recall highlights a persistent problem in the dietary supplement industry: limited pre-market regulation. Unlike prescription drugs, dietary supplements don’t require FDA approval before hitting store shelves.
The 60-count bottles were packaged without disclosing ingredients that pose significant health risks, leaving consumers in the dark about what they were actually consuming.
Health officials recommend that consumers who have experienced adverse effects from using this product should contact their healthcare provider and report the incident to the FDA’s MedWatch program, which tracks adverse events related to supplements and other regulated products.
