The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, has intensified as authorities now believe she was abducted from her Arizona home. Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after vanishing from her Catalina Foothills residence near Tucson.
Chilling surveillance footage, released by the FBI on February 10, shows a masked and gloved individual lurking at Guthrie’s front door in the predawn hours, apparently armed and attempting to shield themselves from the doorbell camera. The camera was disconnected at approximately 1:47 a.m. on February 1 — the last electronic record before her disappearance.
Abduction Now Suspected
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been blunt about the circumstances. “At this point, investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night,” he stated. “Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction. She couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”
The investigation has moved swiftly in recent days. With SWAT assistance, authorities detained a person of interest during a traffic stop south of Tucson. A man identifying himself only as Carlos told reporters he had been questioned in connection with the kidnapping before being released. “I didn’t do anything. … I’m innocent,” he insisted to media at the scene.
