Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Missing: Kidnapping, Ransom, and Clues in Arizona Disappearance

Must read

The mother of NBC’s “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie has vanished from her Arizona home, with authorities now suspecting kidnapping after discovering disturbing evidence at the scene.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence near Tucson on January 31, 2026, when her son-in-law Tommaso Cioni dropped her off around 9:50 p.m. Her family reported her missing the following day after finding her home empty with alarming signs of foul play.

What makes this case particularly chilling? Investigators discovered blood drops on the front porch matching Nancy’s DNA, a propped-open door, and a disconnected doorbell camera. “At this point, investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night,” authorities stated. “She couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”

Digital Evidence Points to Nighttime Abduction

A detailed timeline has emerged showing suspicious activity in the early morning hours of February 1. Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m., and her pacemaker lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. The family called 911 at 12:03 p.m. that same day after discovering her missing.

“It does look like to us, she was taken from that house against her will in the middle of the night,” investigators confirmed. They’ve since been reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby gas station showing a suspicious vehicle during the suspected abduction window.

The search has expanded to include checks of Nancy’s rooftop camera and septic tank, as well as searches at her daughter Annie’s home. Authorities haven’t ruled out any possibilities but are treating the case as a suspected kidnapping.

Ransom Demands Surface

Complicating the investigation, two unverified ransom notes have been sent to media outlets claiming responsibility for Nancy’s kidnapping. The messages set a 5 p.m. PT deadline for a bitcoin payment that has since passed without confirmation of payment or any proof that Nancy is alive.

“There hasn’t been a lot of evidence. You may have an abductor communicating, but we’re not even sure of that yet because there was no proof of life on either emails or text, whatever they got,” a law enforcement source explained.

Savannah Guthrie has taken to social media in a desperate plea for her mother’s safe return, releasing her fourth Instagram video since the disappearance. “We believe our mom is still out there. Law enforcement is working,” the visibly emotional TV host said.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine whether the ransom demands are legitimate or if they might be coming from opportunists attempting to capitalize on the high-profile case. For now, Nancy Guthrie’s family remains in agonizing limbo, clinging to hope while authorities pursue every possible lead in what has become a baffling and frightening disappearance.
