Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested in Florida for 104 MPH Under “Super Speeder” Law

Must read

Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson found herself in handcuffs again after Florida Highway Patrol clocked her driving at a blistering 104 mph in Clermont, Florida last week — more than double the posted speed limit on State Road 429.

The Dallas native’s arrest marks her second run-in with law enforcement in just three months, as Florida’s new “super speeder” law claimed another high-profile violator.

“I did not mean to do that. My phone, I didn’t even know my car was speeding,” Richardson told officers during the stop, according to body camera footage released by authorities.

The incident quickly escalated beyond a simple traffic violation. Richardson’s boyfriend, fellow track star Christian Coleman, was also arrested at the scene after refusing to identify himself, according to police reports. He now faces charges of resisting arrest.

Florida’s Crackdown on Extreme Speeding

Richardson’s arrest comes in the wake of Florida’s aggressive new traffic enforcement law that took effect this July. The legislation gives officers authority to immediately arrest drivers traveling at 100 mph or more, or exceeding posted limits by 50 mph.

Is the Sunshine State serious about enforcement? Absolutely. Florida Highway Patrol has charged more than 70 drivers under the new statute in just the first month after implementation.

For Richardson, the legal troubles compound what has already been a tumultuous period off the track. This latest incident follows her August arrest at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on domestic violence charges involving the same boyfriend, Coleman, where she allegedly pushed him and threw headphones during an argument at a TSA checkpoint, sources confirmed.

The 25-year-old sprinter rose to national prominence during the Olympic trials in 2021, though her path since then has been marked by both athletic triumphs and personal setbacks. Her recent legal issues stand in stark contrast to her disciplined performances on the track, where split-second timing and control are paramount.

Neither Richardson nor her representatives have issued formal statements regarding the Florida incident, leaving fans and critics alike wondering what impact these mounting legal challenges might have on her athletic career.
