A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in South Dallas earlier this week, adding to the city’s growing list of homicides this year.
Shakuri Reece was taken into custody in connection with the death of 39-year-old Antwan Bell, who was discovered dead inside a vehicle on Thursday afternoon, Dallas police confirmed.
Officers responded to a shooting call around 3:00 p.m. on December 11 in the 2400 block of Meyers Street. Upon arrival, they found Bell’s body inside a car with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
What led to the shooting? Authorities haven’t released details about a potential motive or the events leading up to Bell’s death, but the investigation moved quickly, resulting in Reece’s arrest within hours.
Suspect Held on Bond
Reece was transported to Dallas County Jail where his bond was set at $15,000, according to police documents. However, he remains in custody due to an agency hold placed on his release.
The South Dallas neighborhood where the shooting occurred has seen several violent incidents in recent months. This latest homicide comes as city officials continue efforts to address gun violence in certain areas of Dallas.
Detectives are still piecing together the relationship between Reece and Bell, if any existed, and are seeking additional information from potential witnesses.
The Dallas Police Department has urged anyone with information about the case to contact Detective F. Silva at 214-608-2832 or via email at [email protected].
This marks the city’s 147th homicide investigation of 2025, tracking slightly below last year’s numbers at this point in the calendar, though cold weather months typically see a seasonal decline in violent crime.
