Springtown Woman Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter After Fatal Azle Crash

Must read

A Springtown woman has turned herself in to authorities after a deadly multi-vehicle crash that claimed two lives last month in Azle, Texas.

Tammy Jo Lawrence, 48, surrendered to law enforcement on Friday after being notified of multiple warrants for her arrest, according to officials. She now faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault in connection with the September crash that left two dead and others seriously injured, authorities confirmed.

The devastating collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. on September 23, 2025, in the 13000 block of FM 730 S in Azle. Investigators say Lawrence’s northbound vehicle veered across the center line into oncoming traffic, triggering a chaotic chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles total. “Around 12:30 p.m. a vehicle traveling north veered into the southbound lanes and hit two vehicles. Two other vehicles then collided with those vehicles,” police stated.

Two Lives Lost, Others Injured

The impact proved fatal for two individuals who were pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later identified the victims as 67-year-old Robert Edwin Anness and 73-year-old Johna Estes Wicker. Two additional people suffered serious injuries in the pile-up, though their current conditions haven’t been released.

What began as an ordinary afternoon drive ended in tragedy that would forever change multiple families. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash involved a coordinated effort between Azle Police, the Tarrant County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Parker County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lawrence is currently being held in the Parker County Jail on a combined bond of $50,000. Should she be convicted, the legal consequences could be severe. Under Texas law, intoxication manslaughter is classified as a second-degree felony, while intoxication assault represents a third-degree felony — potentially resulting in decades behind bars if found guilty on all counts.

This case highlights the devastating ripple effects that can result from impaired driving decisions. As the legal process unfolds, two families are left to grapple with sudden, irreplaceable losses while others continue recovery from serious injuries sustained in a crash that authorities say should never have happened.
