Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has honored eleven standout legal professionals from the state’s Child Support Division, recognizing their exceptional service to families and children across the Lone Star State.
The Attorney General’s office announced the awards by selecting one Assistant Attorney General (AAG) from each of Texas’s ten child support regions, plus an additional honoree from the Austin headquarters. These legal champions were chosen based on recommendations from peers and supervisors who witnessed their dedication firsthand.
“I applaud this year’s honorees for the outstanding job they’ve done on behalf of Texans and for their unwavering dedication to families and children across the state,” Paxton said in his commendation of the attorneys.
Regional Excellence Across Texas
The 2025 honorees represent a cross-section of Texas’s diverse regions, with Michele Legg representing Austin headquarters, while regional winners include Jason Bujnosek (Lubbock), Alexandra Rothenberg (San Antonio), and Joshua Shamburger (Laredo). Other recipients include Stephanie Sweet from Dallas, Brandy Bonner from Texarkana, and Andrea Eoff representing Houston. Rounding out the list are Cara Campos (Austin region), Deborah Hill (El Paso), Rebecca Eyster (Fort Worth), and Margie Painter from Conroe, as detailed in the official release.
But the recognition comes at a particularly significant moment. The Attorney General’s office has just completed a major technological overhaul of its child support infrastructure.
In a separate development, Paxton recently unveiled the successful launch of a new cloud-based case management system dubbed “ChAMP” (Children Are My Priority). The platform replaces a 30-year-old legacy system, bringing Texas child support services firmly into the modern era.
“ChAMP represents a significant milestone in our commitment to serving Texas families,” said Attorney General Paxton. “This system modernizes the core of our child support operations, empowering our staff with better tools and giving parents the timely support and information they deserve.”
How effective has the new system been? Since its June 12, 2025 launch, ChAMP has processed an astonishing 3.1 million child support payments totaling $614 million in just a month and a half. That figure exceeds what 35 other states distribute in an entire year, highlighting the massive scale of Texas’s child support program.
Supporting Texas Families
The Office of the Attorney General’s Child Support Division offers a comprehensive suite of services for families navigating the often complex world of child support. These services include locating absent parents, establishing paternity, enforcing child and medical support orders, and handling the collection and distribution of support payments, according to the Attorney General’s office.
The recognized attorneys represent the front lines of these efforts, working directly with families in need across the state’s varied landscapes – from the urban centers of Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston to the border communities of Laredo and El Paso.
For the families who depend on child support payments, these improvements and the dedicated attorneys who implement them aren’t just administrative details – they’re lifelines that can mean the difference between stability and hardship for children across Texas.
