Texas Law Enforcement Busts Permian Basin Human Trafficking Ring, Rescues Child

Must read

Texas law enforcement agencies have uncovered yet another human trafficking operation in the Permian Basin, rescuing two victims — including a child — and arresting 18 individuals during a coordinated sting in October 2025.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the multi-agency operation that brought together state and local authorities in a targeted effort to combat human trafficking networks operating in the region. Among those rescued were one juvenile and one adult victim, highlighting the disturbing reality of exploitation that continues to plague the area.

What made this operation particularly effective? The collaborative approach involving numerous agencies across jurisdictions. The DPS Criminal Investigations Division worked alongside Texas Highway Patrol, the Office of the Attorney General, Homeland Security Investigations, and multiple local law enforcement departments from Midland, Odessa, Lamesa, and Ector County in what officials described as a comprehensive enforcement action.

Charges Filed Against Suspects

The 18 individuals swept up in the operation now face a variety of serious charges, including prostitution, solicitation of prostitution, promotion of prostitution, and perhaps most disturbing — online solicitation of a minor. The suspects have been booked into various detention facilities throughout the Permian Basin region.

“DPS rescued two victims under this recent operation, including one juvenile and one adult,” officials stated in their release about the operation. But the investigation isn’t over. Authorities continue to pursue additional suspects identified during the operation, suggesting the network may be more extensive than initially thought.

The DPS has emphasized their victim-centered approach in tackling human trafficking. “DPS focuses efforts to combat human trafficking by utilizing a victim-centered approach, which places equal importance and value on the identification, recovery, safety and stabilization of victims in addition to the investigation and prosecution of traffickers,” the agency explained.

How to Report Suspected Trafficking

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected human trafficking activity. If you witness something suspicious, you’re encouraged to call 911 immediately with as many details as possible. Alternatively, reports can be submitted through the iWatchTexas website or by contacting the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Those uncomfortable with calling can text “BeFree” to 233733, officials noted.

The Permian Basin operation represents just one front in the ongoing battle against human trafficking in Texas. For the victims rescued — particularly the child — it’s a chance at recovery from exploitation that often leaves lasting trauma. Meanwhile, for those arrested, investigations continue as authorities work to dismantle what they suspect may be part of larger trafficking networks operating across the region.
