Texas is doubling down on its commitment to veterans with a major hiring initiative set to kick off this November. The Lone Star State is rolling out the welcome mat for those who’ve served.
Governor Greg Abbott has invited Texas veterans, service members, and their spouses to participate in the 2025 Hiring Red, White & You! statewide hiring fair running from November 4 through November 20. The annual event, now in its 14th year, aims to connect military talent with employers across the state in what has become one of Texas’ most successful workforce initiatives.
“The talent of our brave veterans who answered the call to serve our nation is a large part of the Texas economic engine,” said Governor Abbott. “The skills and mission-driven mindset of our veterans brings a competitive advantage to any business in our state. This November, I urge all Texas veterans and military families to attend a Hiring Red, White, & You! event,” he announced.
A Proven Track Record
Since its inception in 2012, the initiative has made a substantial impact. The program has connected more than 26,000 employers with 153,000 job seekers, including 52,500 veterans, resulting in over 4,300 same-day hires, according to official figures.
What’s in it for businesses? Quite a bit, actually. Employers can participate free of charge and may be eligible for federal tax benefits up to $9,600 through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit when hiring veterans. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) also recognizes businesses with at least 10% veteran workforce through its WeHireVets initiative.
TWC Chairman Joe Esparza emphasized the importance of supporting former service members. “It’s important that we continue to serve those who served, and do so with priority, resources, and commitment,” said Esparza. “From navigating the transition to civilian life to connecting with meaningful careers, Hiring Red, White & You! events make a difference in the lives of veterans across Texas.”
Local Events Statewide
Looking to attend? The largest local event in Longview will be held on November 5 at the Maude Cobb Convention Center from 10 AM to 1 PM, with an opening ceremony at 9:30 AM. The event is open to the public, though employers must register to participate.
In Arlington, job seekers can head to Globe Life Field on November 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where more than 100 employers will be looking to fill thousands of job openings. Parking will be free, and while the event is open to everyone, priority access will be given to veterans, organizers confirmed.
Austin’s event, billed as the city’s largest veterans hiring event, will take place on November 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex. Its slogan? “You served your country, now let Texas serve you.”
Economic Impact
Why does this matter for the broader Texas economy? With more than 1.7 million veterans and active service members calling Texas home, their contribution to the workforce is substantial.
“Texas recognizes the invaluable skills and experience that veterans bring, not only to the workforce but to every aspect of our community,” said TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Brent Connett. “TWC’s annual Hiring Red, White & You! job fairs continue to successfully connect Texas veterans, transitioning military personnel, and their spouses with rewarding careers, and the Texas economy is brighter and stronger because of veterans’ successes.”
TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III echoed this sentiment: “Thank you to our veterans who have served our country. Texas is home to more than 1.7 million veterans and serving military members whose skills and experience are crucial contributors to the state’s economic success.”
The Hiring Red, White & You! events are hosted in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Veterans Commission, Texas Medical Center, and the Governor’s Office. For many veterans transitioning to civilian life, these events represent more than just job opportunities — they’re a bridge to the next chapter.
