President Trump returned to Georgia Wednesday, touting what he characterized as a state experiencing “real recovery” under his administration while acknowledging more work remains to reverse what he called economic damage from the Biden years.
“As President Donald J. Trump visits Georgia today, he returns to a state that is seeing real recovery, safer communities, and renewed strength under his leadership,” the White House stated ahead of the visit.
Economic Relief Front and Center
The visit comes as Georgia’s average gas price has fallen to $2.71 per gallon — a 40% decrease from record highs seen during the previous administration, according to White House figures.
Trump’s trip highlighted the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which his administration claims is saving the average Georgia family $3,086 on taxes this year, with wages projected to rise by up to $6,700 per person over several years. The legislation is also credited with protecting over 204,000 Georgia jobs.
“Georgia is obviously a very important state to the president and to the Republican Party,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, noting Trump’s remarks would focus on making life more affordable for working people.
Investment Surge
The administration is trumpeting several major investments in the state. Amazon Web Services plans to pour an estimated $11 billion into expanding its Georgia infrastructure, creating at least 550 high-skilled jobs.
Salesforce is also investing $15 million to grow its Georgia presence, adding over 250 new jobs, while JS Link has announced a $223 million investment for a rare earth magnet plant expected to create 520 new jobs.
Perhaps most notable? A $600 million synthetic diamond grit facility is advancing in Georgia as part of Japan’s $550 billion investment pledge to the United States. The facility aims to meet critical manufacturing and semiconductor needs while reducing reliance on foreign supplies.
Healthcare and Infrastructure
The Trump Administration has also announced more than $1 billion in funding available to Georgia communities and healthcare facilities for critical infrastructure and disaster recovery support.
Rural health care is getting particular attention, with Georgia receiving more than $218 million in investment from Republicans to strengthen communities across the state.
Housing and Immigration
On the housing front, the average price of a Georgia home is down nearly 2% over the past year, with the Atlanta metro area’s median home listing price declining 4.1% year-over-year, ranking near the top nationally in falling home prices.
Immigration enforcement has also been a focus. “The Trump Administration’s ICE has taken scores of criminal illegal aliens — including killers, rapists, and drug dealers — off Georgia’s streets,” the White House emphasized, noting removals of individuals convicted or charged with serious crimes including rape, murder, burglary, assault, and firearms trafficking.
Political Context
Trump chose to visit Rome in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, where a special election is scheduled for March 10. The seat has drawn national attention as it was previously held by Marjorie Taylor Greene, who resigned in January after publicly breaking with the president, local media reported.
The visit underscores Georgia’s continued importance to Trump’s political strategy. Despite the economic gains touted by the administration, challenges remain. The White House acknowledged more work is needed “to fully reverse the economic damage of the Biden era” — a theme likely to resonate with Republican voters heading into the midterm elections.
