Global Leaders Rally Behind Trump’s 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan

President Donald Trump’s sweeping 20-point peace plan for Gaza has garnered unprecedented international support, with leaders from across the political spectrum and geographical divides rushing to endorse what many are calling a potential breakthrough in one of the world’s most intractable conflicts.

The comprehensive proposal, announced on September 29, 2025, aims to achieve an immediate ceasefire, secure the release of Israeli hostages, facilitate prisoner exchanges, and establish a pathway toward Palestinian statehood — all while ensuring Gaza’s demilitarization and reconstruction under international supervision. The plan has emerged as Trump’s most ambitious foreign policy initiative of his second term.

Broad Support from Arab and Muslim Countries

Perhaps most striking is the swift endorsement from Arab and Muslim nations that have historically been skeptical of U.S.-led Middle East peace initiatives. The Foreign Ministers of Qatar, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt issued a joint statement welcoming “President Donald J. Trump’s leadership and his sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza,” asserting “their confidence in his ability to find a path to peace.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was among the first to voice support, praising “Trump’s leadership and the vital role played by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff” while stressing that “the implementation of the two state proposal is essential to ensure lasting peace in the region.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, often a critic of U.S. foreign policy in the region, commended “US President Donald Trump’s efforts and leadership aimed at halting the bloodshed in Gaza,” pledging that “Türkiye will continue to contribute to the process with a view to establishing a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties.”

Even the Palestinian Authority, which has had a complicated relationship with the Trump administration, expressed confidence in the president’s “ability to find a path toward peace.”

Western Allies Line Up Behind the Plan

European leaders have also thrown their weight behind Trump’s initiative. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen encouraged “all parties to now seize this opportunity,” while European Council President Antonio Costa noted he was “encouraged by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s positive response.”

French President Emmanuel Macron was unequivocal in his support, stating that “Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan.” The French leader emphasized that “France stands ready to contribute.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the initiative “profoundly welcome” and urged Hamas to “agree to the plan and end the misery, by laying down their arms and releasing all remaining hostages.”

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul described the plan as a “unique opportunity” and expressed gratitude to “US President Donald Trump and his Administration for his intense efforts to end the war.”

Global Momentum Builds

What’s surprising about this diplomatic breakthrough? The sheer breadth of support spanning traditional geopolitical divides.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the plan as “a viable pathway to long-term peace, security, and development for Palestinians, Israelis, and the broader West Asian region,” while Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba praised Trump’s leadership as “a significant step toward a two-state solution.”

Even China, which has often positioned itself as a counterweight to U.S. influence in international affairs, stated it “welcomes and supports all efforts conducive to easing the tensions between Palestine and Israel,” according to foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese acknowledged the toll of “two years of conflict and devastating loss of life” in welcoming the initiative, while New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters characterized it as “an example of such global leadership.”

The Path Forward

Despite the widespread international endorsement, the plan’s success hinges on Hamas’s approval. The 20-point proposal requires the militant group to agree to a ceasefire, release all hostages, and accept demilitarization of Gaza.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized this point, insisting that “Hamas must immediately release all hostages” while pledging Canada’s support for “the sustained, unimpeded, and large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the proposal as a potential “turning point” that presents “an ambitious project for the stabilisation, reconstruction and development of the Gaza Strip, with the full involvement of regional partners,” according to a statement from her office.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun praised the plan’s “realistic approach” in “addressing contentious and problematic issues,” while Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that “a sustainable and just peace requires sincere commitment, mutual trust, and respect for international law.”

Spanish President Pedro Sanchez reaffirmed that “the two-State solution, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, is the only possible one.”

As world leaders line up behind this ambitious roadmap for peace, all eyes now turn to Hamas’s response. The plan represents what Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called “a unique opportunity and a crucial step” that could “strengthen interstate trust and establish a lasting
