Lubbock police are investigating two shootings that erupted just hours apart Tuesday on Avenue Q, with at least one person hospitalized with serious injuries.
The violence began early Tuesday afternoon when officers rushed to the 600 block of Avenue Q after receiving reports of gunfire. Police confirmed the first incident occurred around 1:10 p.m., quickly drawing a heavy law enforcement presence to the area.
Just hours later, a second shooting erupted along the same stretch of Avenue Q. Investigators now believe the two incidents are connected, according to authorities who stated that one man suffered serious injuries during the violence.
Pattern of Violence
What’s driving the gunfire along one of Lubbock’s main thoroughfares? While police haven’t released details about possible motives, they’ve made at least one arrest in connection with both shootings.
The quick succession of related shootings has raised concerns among local residents and business owners in the area, many of whom witnessed the heavy police response that followed each incident.
Avenue Q, a major north-south corridor through Lubbock, has seen its share of incidents over the years. Tuesday’s violence, however, stands out for the apparent connection between two separate shootings occurring within such a compressed timeframe.
Local officials haven’t yet released the identity of the person arrested or the condition of the injured victim beyond describing the wounds as serious.
The investigation remains active, with Lubbock police likely to provide additional details as they process evidence from both crime scenes and interview witnesses who may have seen either incident unfold.
