Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are expanding their family, announcing Monday they are expecting their fourth child, a boy due in late July 2026.
“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” the couple said in a statement. “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July,” the Vice President announced.
The baby boy will join siblings Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel in the vice presidential family. Their youngest child, Mirabel, was born in December 2021, just months before Vance launched his successful Senate campaign in Ohio, as Politico notes.
From Yale Law to the Naval Observatory
The Vances’ relationship has been central to the Vice President’s public narrative. The couple met while studying at Yale Law School and married in 2014, beginning a partnership that would eventually lead them to Washington’s Naval Observatory, the traditional residence of the Vice President and Second Family.
Before her husband’s political rise, Usha Vance built an impressive legal career. She clerked for two Supreme Court justices — Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh — and later worked as a lawyer at the prestigious firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, as CBS detailed in their coverage.
How will a new baby affect the Second Family’s already busy schedule? The couple seems prepared for the challenge ahead.
“During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children,” the Vances stated.
The announcement marks a rare instance of a sitting Vice President welcoming a child while in office. The baby’s arrival next summer will come in the midst of what will likely be an intense political season, with the administration approaching the halfway point of its term.
