Wienerschnitzel Corn Dogs Now at H-E-B: Texas Gets Exclusive Frozen Treat

Must read

Texas corn dog lovers just got a taste of something new in the frozen food aisle. Wienerschnitzel, the iconic hot dog chain, has launched its popular Original Corn Dogs at 250 H-E-B stores across the Lone Star State, marking the brand’s first venture into retail grocery.

The partnership between H-E-B and Wienerschnitzel makes the Texas supermarket chain the exclusive retailer for these frozen corn dogs statewide. It’s a significant move for the hot dog brand, which until now had only offered its products through its restaurant locations. “Our corn dogs are perfect for a meal or quick snack, and we’re excited to partner with H-E-B to give Texans a first taste of them at retail,” said Doug Koegeboehn, Wienerschnitzel’s Chief Marketing Officer, in a statement released with the announcement.

From Drive-Thru to Freezer

The frozen corn dogs come fully cooked in a 14-count package, requiring just minutes to heat up at home. Made with chicken and beef franks wrapped in a sweet honey batter, each corn dog contains 190 calories per serving according to product details shared by the company.

Hungry for a taste? The 14-count package retails for $10.98, making each corn dog less than a dollar — considerably cheaper than the restaurant version. The product arrives in H-E-B freezers through a partnership with Golden West Food Group, which handles the manufacturing and distribution according to company announcements.

Why Texas for the initial launch? The state has long been a stronghold for both brands. H-E-B operates exclusively in Texas and parts of Mexico, while Wienerschnitzel has a loyal following in the state despite being headquartered in California. The regional launch suggests the companies are testing consumer reception before potentially expanding to other markets.

Convenience Food Boom

The move comes amid growing consumer demand for restaurant-quality foods that can be prepared quickly at home. Fast food chains increasingly see retail grocery as an untapped revenue stream, with brands from White Castle to Taco Bell putting their popular items in freezer sections nationwide.

Could this be just the beginning for Wienerschnitzel’s retail ambitions? Industry observers note that if the H-E-B rollout proves successful, expansion to other grocery chains and additional products might follow. The company’s famous chili and other signature items could potentially make the jump to retail as well.

For now, Texans have exclusive bragging rights as the first to be able to enjoy these corn dogs without a trip to the drive-thru. The product’s availability has been confirmed across H-E-B’s network, though shoppers might want to check their local store’s inventory on the H-E-B website before making a special trip.

Whether this retail experiment sizzles or fizzles remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain — the line between restaurant dining and grocery shopping continues to blur, one corn dog at a time.
