Send Love to Heroes: Texas “Valentines for Vets” 2026 Campaign

Must read

Texas officials are calling on citizens to show appreciation for those who served our country — with a heartfelt touch of construction paper and glue.

Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham has launched the 2026 “Valentines for Vets” campaign, encouraging Texans across the state to send Valentine’s Day cards to veterans residing in the state’s 10 Veterans Homes. The initiative, announced on February 4, aims to bring joy to those who’ve sacrificed for the nation.

“We are the land of the free because of the brave. This Valentine’s Day, I encourage Texans to show appreciation for our Veterans by sending cards to our 10 Texas State Veterans Homes,” Buckingham said in her announcement.

Building on Past Success

Last year’s campaign was no small affair. The initiative delivered nearly 38,000 cards to veterans throughout Texas — a testament to the state’s commitment to honoring those who served. Officials hope to match or exceed that number this year.

Want to participate? There’s still time, but you’ll need to act quickly. All cards must be postmarked by February 10, 2026, and addresses should include “Valentines for Vets” to ensure proper routing.

“Anyone can send a card through the VLB’s Valentines for Vets campaign, including schoolchildren, co-workers, families, and friends,” Buckingham noted. “Each Valentine sent will remind our heroes that their courageous sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

Where the Cards Are Headed

The Valentine’s Day greetings will find their way to residents at all 10 Texas State Veterans Homes, including the newest addition to the network — the Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth, which honors the legacy of the famed African American military pilots who fought in World War II.

Not feeling creative? Don’t worry. The Texas General Land Office has you covered with downloadable card designs available on their website for those who want to participate but may need a little artistic assistance.

The campaign represents more than just a seasonal gesture. For many veterans, especially those with limited family connections, these cards provide a meaningful reminder that their service continues to be valued by the communities they helped protect.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, officials hope Texans will take a moment away from commercial celebrations to remember those whose sacrifices made such celebrations possible in the first place.
