Governor’s Small Business Summit 2025: Boosting Texas Entrepreneurship in Big Lake

Must read

Governor Greg Abbott has announced plans to bring the 2025 Governor’s Small Business Summit to Big Lake, Texas, setting the stage for what officials hope will be a significant boost to local entrepreneurship in the region.

The summit, scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025, aims to connect small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with critical resources needed to launch and grow their ventures in the Lone Star State. “Small businesses are the cornerstone of our vibrant communities and the driving force behind Texas’ thriving economy,” Abbott said in the announcement.

Texas Small Business Landscape

Why focus on small business? The numbers tell the story. Texas currently hosts more than 3.5 million small businesses that collectively employ nearly half of all working Texans. “Our state continues to lead in job creation and business expansion,” the governor noted in his statement, highlighting the economic impact these enterprises have across the state.

The Big Lake summit represents just one stop in a series of similar events planned throughout Texas in 2025. Additional summits are scheduled for Eagle Pass (September 11), Carthage (September 25), Dalhart (October 9), as well as specialized events focused on women entrepreneurs in Denton (October 23) and veteran business owners in Belton (November 13).

What Attendees Can Expect

The day-long program will feature several panel discussions designed to address common challenges facing small business owners. Sessions include “Building Your Dream: A Conversation with Entrepreneurs,” “Strategies for Growth: Leveraging State and Local Programs,” and “Recruiting, Training, and Retaining Employees in Today’s Economy.”

“The Governor’s Small Business Summit — Big Lake brings together local, state, and federal resource partners to provide key insights on critical business topics,” according to materials released by the governor’s office.

Joe Esparza, Commissioner Representing Employers at the Texas Workforce Commission, will serve as a featured speaker at the event, which is being hosted in partnership with the Big Lake Economic Development Corporation and the Texas Workforce Commission, event details show.

Registration Details

Looking to attend? The registration fee is $20, which the organizers have structured to include access to all sessions, resource providers, lunch, and even complimentary professional headshots — a particularly valuable offering for entrepreneurs building their brand presence.

The summit will run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Reagan County Community Building, located at 1305 N. Montana Ave. in Big Lake, according to the registration page.

For those unable to attend in person, the Governor’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office and Office of Small Business Assistance also host online webinars throughout the year. These virtual sessions cover similar content and are available on-demand for those seeking flexibility.

As Texas continues its post-pandemic economic recovery, events like these reflect the state’s ongoing commitment to supporting its smallest enterprises — the mom-and-pop shops, startups, and family businesses that collectively form the backbone of local economies from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley.
