Texas Church Roof Collapse: Winter Storm Destroys Kingdom Culture Dallas Sanctuary

Must read

A Texas church that recently relocated from California lost nearly everything when its roof collapsed under the weight of snow and ice from the winter storm that swept through the state this week.

Kingdom Culture Dallas, which opened in Cedar Hill in late 2024 after a cross-country move, now faces months of rebuilding after the ceiling of their main sanctuary caved in, destroying worship space, musical instruments, sound equipment, LED screens, and crucial electronics used for services.

Devastating Discovery

Church leaders initially thought the damage might be limited. “It’s a huge building, good portion, what could that mean, right? We were thinking a couple of kids’ rooms down, maybe lost an office or a bathroom or something,” Jaquet Dumas, a senior leader at the church, told FOX 4’s Amelia Jones. “I don’t think anything could have prepared us for what we saw when we hit that doorway.”

The congregation had taken standard winter precautions — leaving faucets dripping and heat running throughout the building. But the accumulation of ice proved too much for the structure to bear.

“No way in the world did we think the weight of the ice would bring the roof down as it accumulated,” Sherman Dumas said.

The exact timing of the collapse remains unknown. Church officials are now awaiting insurance inspections while simultaneously planning for temporary worship space and equipment rental that could be needed for at least five months.

New Beginnings Cut Short

What makes the collapse particularly poignant? The church had only recently established itself in Texas after operating as Kingdom Culture San Bernardino in California for 16 years. The pastors had successfully purchased the former Hope Lutheran Church building through nationwide fundraising efforts, only to see their new home severely damaged months later.

CBS News Texas confirms that the weight of recent ice destroyed not just the physical structure but also the equipment essential for weekly worship services.

The congregation has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover costs that insurance might not fully address.

Finding Hope in Devastation

Despite the extensive damage, church leaders remain remarkably resilient. Among the rubble, they’ve found symbols of hope that have strengthened their resolve to rebuild.

“To see it still intact just as that reminder of the Holy Spirit as that hope and that joy,” Dumas reflected. “I think our message is that there’s still hope and there is joy that’s still alive.”

For now, the congregation must find temporary quarters while they navigate the long road to rebuilding their sanctuary. But if their response to this disaster is any indication, the walls may have come down, but the spirit of Kingdom Culture Dallas remains firmly intact.
