Foster Urgently Needed: 11 Dogs Displaced by Fort Worth Tornado

Must read

A Fort Worth-area animal rescue is in ruins after a tornado tore through its facilities Saturday night — and a Central Texas shelter is racing to help.

Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter announced it will take in 11 dogs displaced from Tall Tails Rescue and Transport, a nonprofit whose operations were devastated by the storm. Severe hail compounded the damage, leaving the organization scrambling to find safe placement for its animals while it begins what will likely be a long recovery.

An Urgent Ask

The shelter isn’t just absorbing 11 new dogs — it’s asking the community to step up first. To make room for the incoming animals, WCRAS is actively seeking emergency fosters for dogs already in its care. No pre-approval is required. The shelter, located at 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown, is open until 6 p.m. Sunday.

How quickly can this come together? That depends entirely on how many people show up. But if Georgetown’s track record means anything, the shelter seems to be betting on its neighbors.

“We know our community shows up in times of need,” the shelter stated. “Please consider fostering a dog today so these 11 dogs can have a safe place to stay as this organization tries to pick up the pieces.”

No Red Tape, Just Dogs That Need Help

The no-pre-approval requirement is notable. Shelters don’t typically waive that process lightly — it signals just how urgent the timeline is. These aren’t dogs that can wait out a week-long application review. They need somewhere to go, and they need it now.

Tall Tails Rescue and Transport, based in the Fort Worth area, works to rescue and rehome animals in North Texas. Saturday’s storm didn’t just damage a building — it disrupted an entire operation built around keeping vulnerable animals safe. Getting back on its feet will take time, resources, and exactly this kind of mutual aid from shelters willing to absorb the overflow.

Still, the ask here is a relatively simple one. Foster a dog for a while. Give it a couch, a yard, a quiet room. Let a battered rescue organization catch its breath.

Eleven dogs are waiting to find out if someone will.
